Spiral Consort is a unique ensemble that brings the ancient sound of the conch shell—the original trumpet—into a contemporary musical context. Conch shells have been used for thousands of years as signaling and ritual instruments in cultures around the world, but their place in modern music remains rare and unique.

With an open and intuitive approach, Spiral Consort explores the rich overtones, microtonal nuances, and physical vibrations of these instruments. Their music emerges from simplicity and pure sound, growing organically into hypnotic compositions and intense soundscapes. The result is not a traditional concert, but an almost physical listening experience in which resonance, space, and silence play just as important a role as the music itself.

The group enjoys performing at unique venues where the architecture and acoustics become an integral part of the performance. For example, they recorded at the abandoned St. Dominic’s Church in Antwerp, a place whose reverberation and atmosphere are inextricably linked to their sound.

In addition to concert performances, Spiral Consort also collaborates with artists from the worlds of theater and performance, including theater director Natalie Teirlinck and singer Liesa Van der Aa on the multimedia music project Shellter.
