Why so much hate? Why so little love?
Against a dark backdrop of hatred and prejudice, two young people fight for the freedom to experience love and intimacy.

In Romeo & Juliet , love is celebrated and peeks are taken under skirts; marriages are improvised and nighttime escapades are organized; dishes are thrown and doors are slammed; and, finally, lovers are carried to their graves.

This new, inclusive theater production by Comp. Marius and Het Scheldeoffensief gives a contemporary and intergenerational voice to a timeless love story. In this adaptation, a major—and at times farcical—family feud masks an underlying social challenge. To what extent can you—or are you allowed to—have autonomy over your love and sexual feelings and act on them? And what if others see you as different, or you perceive yourself as different? When do the care and concern of parents and others cross the line into sexual discrimination? And how honestly do parents, young people, and children dare—and are able—to communicate about intimacy and being different?
